5 Easy and Quick Tips for Decorating Your Mantels

Mantels are the best, aren’t they? They can make the biggest statement in a room, and at the same time, they are a safe place to try out a new style. Well, as much as we absolutely love mantels, they can be a bit of a challenge. Does it flow? Do I have too much? Do I not have enough? These are just some of the thoughts we have had as we decorated this piece throughout the years. From changing homes to changing styles, we always keep in mind the same 5 tips below when it comes to organizing this focal point. No matter the shape or size of your mantel, we hope these suggestions make it a bit easier for you to incorporate a new style to that space.

Tip 1: TAKE A RISK WITH THE LAYOUT

Taking a risk is always so easy to say, but it is usually one of the hardest things for many of us to do. The reason we love mantels so much is that they are a safe place to take that risk. If you are looking for a little change when it comes to your mantel, that doesn’t mean you have to go out a buy everything new. You already have beautiful things!! Instead, use your beautiful items and try a new layout. If you are someone who leans more towards the symmetrical look, try layering some of your pieces. It is an easy fix that does not cost you a dime. It is the same concept for someone who tends to like the cluttered look more. If you are wanting something a little different, just removing some of the items and rearranging them can give an entirely new look to your mantel.

Tip 2: USE THINGS THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

Like we mentioned in tip one, you already have beautiful things to work with. At the same time, keep in mind that you are not limited to just using the items on your mantel. Just because a mirror or a vase has been on your mantel for a year does not mean it has to stay there. Have fun and go on a little scavenger hunt through your home. More than likely, something will catch your eye. This not only completely free, but it can bring an entirely new look to your mantel.

Tip 3: TRY EVERYTHING… YOU MIGHT END UP LIKING SOMETHING YOU NEVER THOUGHT YOU WOULD

We had so much fun creating all the different styles of mantels that we have pictured. We tried to hit a couple of styles from boho to industrial. Just like so many of us, we had to step out of our little comfort zone. Our personal style ranges from a traditional farmhouse with some industrial farmhouse accents. So we did not know what to expect or how we were going to feel about the boho or rustic style mantels. Let’s just say, we were in shock at how much we loved both looks. We thought the colors were gorgeous, and it was like a fresh breath of air because it was something completely new. If we did not step out of our comfort zone, we would have never known how gorgeous these two styles really are.

Tip 4: MANTELS ARE NOT JUST OVER THE FIREPLACE ANYMORE

Just because you do not have a working fireplace does not mean you can’t have a mantel. Feel like one of the rooms in your home is lacking a focal point or needs a statement piece, try a faux mantle. They come in all shapes and sizes, and what an impact it makes to a room!

Tip 5: NOTHING IS PERMANENT WHEN DECORATING A MANTEL

Tip 5 is taking all the tips and rolling them into one. Nothing is permanent when it comes to decorating a mantel. We encourage you to arrange and rearrange the layout, use numerous items, and try as many styles as you want until you get that exact look you are wanting. Take a couple of risks with your mantel and just for fun try a style outside of your comfort zone. You might end up loving an entirely different style, just like us.

We hope that these tips help ease any stress when it comes to decorating your mantel. Please tag us, if you decide to take a leap and change up your mantel. We would love to see what you came up with and the style you chose.

.

All our love,

Amber & Brooke
