I first saw this recipe by the Pioneer Woman and absolutely loved the idea of a pie that makes for an easy weeknight dessert. I took Ree's recipe and tweaked it to fit my family's taste. I hope you enjoy this pie as much as I do!
I'm giving this recipe just like the roast I shared on our IG stories...I guess I'm a lot like my Granny. There are not many perfect measurements or baking times...just bake it to fit you! Let's get started.
Flat Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
5 to 6 Fiji Apples (you can use any apples you like. This is what I had at home)
2 tbsp flour (add more if your mixture gets a little watery)
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
2 PIllsbury Pie Crusts
Step One:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Remember to put peels on a paper towel for easy cleanup.
I peeled 8 apples because we usually eat apple slices once they have the sugar and cinnamon on them so I have to replace a few slices. I promise you will probably do the same. :)
Step Two:
Slice the apples (medium...not too thin and not too thick) and add flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon to a bowl. Stir.
Step Three:
You have probably eaten several slices of apples because they are so yummy!
Now add a few more slices and mix again.
Step Four:
Let your apples sit for a bit. Put parchment paper on two baking sheets. Then place one pie crust in the middle of each sheet.
Step Five:
Put the apples in the middle of the pie crust and then fold the edges over the apples. You don't have to make it perfect. This is just for a quick dessert!
Place in the oven at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes depending on your oven.
Step Six:
Enjoy! It's wonderful right out of the oven with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream on top!
One apple flat pie will feed my family of 4 so you can have apple pie for dessert for 2 nights! Yay! :)
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does! If you bake it, please send us a picture on our Instagram feed @theoldrivernest. We would love to share it on our stories.
We hope your day is as sweet as pie!
Blessings Friend,
Amber & Brooke :)
