Five Ways to Celebrate Christmas in July

Let us tell you a secret….once Fourth of July is over…we are ready for fall y’all! It gets steamy in Texas, and with no major holidays to celebrate, summer gets a little monotonous. Do you feel us? The kids start to get bored and ready for a routine, and to be honest, we get a little lazy too. So, we decided this year to change it up to do a “Christmas in July” to have something to celebrate. Especially with the way 2020 has been going…. we need a little joy!

Here are five ideas to do with your kiddos to bring some Christmas cheer into your home, and for Southerners to pretend it’s not 100 plus degrees outside.

Decorate a Christmas Tree

In the South…there is no such thing as only one Christmas tree in your house. You usually have at least two (and we have friends and us included that have a Christmas tree in almost every room!) Too much, maybe...but the point is to get one small tree and decorate it with a few of your favorite ornaments. Oh, and hang up your Christmas stockings too. You don’t have to go out of control with decorating; however, it will add a little Christmas cheer to your home which will make everyone’s hearts happy.

Stocking Stuffers

Speaking of stockings, we thought it would be a sweet idea to give the kids a small “Christmas in July” gift. Nothing big, just a cute little gift to let them know how much we love them and give them something to do for the rest of the summer. Our gifts are going to be Legos and Barbies for Emmy. Oh, and we couldn't forget Charlotte. We got a toy and a bone. :)

Hallmark Christmas Movie Night

Turn down the A/C, crank up the fans, and make some delicious hot chocolate or apple cider with the family. Watch a Christmas in July Hallmark Movie with matching Christmas PJs, and you will have one magical night with your family.

Christmas Cookies

We love to bake, and one of our favorite traditions is baking Christmas cookies during the holidays. What better way to feel merry and bright than baking with family? Add a little Christmas music, and we promise everyone will feel fa la la la!

Secret Santa Gifts

Play Secret Santa with your community. Use the cookies you baked and deliver to people in your community and family. What a great way to spread Christmas cheer!

We hope these ideas help bring a magical feel to your home and kiddos this summer. Please send us pictures on Instagram if you are celebrating Christmas in July at @theoldrivernest.com.

Sending you merry wishes,

Amber & Brooke
